This rant inspired by my dear comrade soon attendance at her 60th Kindergarten Reunion.

"Kindergarten Reunion?"
Well this shows how varied American culture is. It being so divided by race class religion orientation, and hat size. I mean just the idea of such a thing implies an extreme level of class race culture homogenization. Like the Barber Shop culture for black men.

The only place they talk or even slightly tell the truth about life. As a little boy I was part of that,...when I was forced to get my hair cut. I remember the reaction in one such place to "Sputnik", and later them two Russian dogs they sent up. The Barber shop folks really didn't like sending those poor little guys up. Black folks 'really' like dogs. A possible southern culture holdover.
'But I digress.

"Kindergarten" seemed a profoundly white middleclass thing. This as opposed to "family" reunions which are common especially to folks in the South of all races, and classes. Btw there's a whole regional industry for t-shirts, and assorted merchandise for the family re-union stuff. Anyway "kindergartens" themselves seem a regional institution. Even then a mostly suburban one. The rest of us were usually just dumped into the first grade. This like totally untrained raw draftee's, and told "good luck" see you after high school.

As a little kid I'd heard of kindergarten, and saw it portrayed in the white sitcoms of the 1950's thru early 60's. However like most non-urban customs it seemed strange.
I mean why?
Why have such a thing? It seemed as remote, and Bizzaro World as Cotillions. Mind you these "reunions" would show one what a random selection of small children would become over a lifetime. 

Mixed reviews I'd imagine.

"Angels Weep"

Speaking of the end of things Israel a nation I have defended on moral grounds my entire life. They today passed the "Jewish Nation State Law". This makes the state a Jewish only polity. 

Arabic was the first casualty which till now was the second official language of Israel. It has been downgraded to what French was in pre-1970 Canada. 

That is an unofficial language.

Movement of people, and ownership of property by non-Jews is also now even more limited.

I feel besides the murder of Palestinians, and the theft of their lands. Israel is now as South Africa was under Apartheid. To the extent of deporting African refugees. Even those with Black Israeli relatives.

It seems the nationalist/racist wave overtaking the west has consumed Israel. A nation once founded for moral principles.

As has been said. The Arab nations can lose many wars, but Israel has to lose only One! This for a new Jewish homelessness to come.

I sadly now feel they deserve this eventual fate.

"Black to the Future"

What isn't in the Future? 'Black People'. I'm an old S/F fan. Being so I couldn't help, but notice our complete, and total absence from the future. Though I recall a short film from the 1930's about the future dress styles in the 1990's.
There was one light skinned colored maid helping her mistress dress.


Okay I guess that was something. However we went invisible for the next 50 years or so. Around the late 1980's we started to show up again. Usually to be killed in the first five minutes.
The monster films of the 1950's killed Asians or Hispanics in that short time. Remember the Mexican guy that the Martians vaporized in the 1953 version of "War of the Worlds".
Well at least the actor playing a comical stereotype farm hand got paid for a days work.

These daze we're showing up regular as background figures or villains of one sort or other. However as usual "Star Trek" came through for us with "Deep Space 9".

A show with an actual Negro as the star...imagine that.
Well now we're getting butt deep into the 21st century, and there's Colored folks all over the place.
See colored folks are 'now' in the future.

By this reckoning half of the roles in "2001 a Space Odyssey" should have gone to Women, and a reasonable spread of Colored people.

Maybe somebody will shoot a remake of "2001" with that balance or at least a more balanced parody.

Anyway we should get equal credit for destroying the universe with everyone else. Hey we're all into this nightmare together.

"Storm"

There was a very heavy rain this Sunday morning. 

I was still up so went out to walk in it.

I love walking in the rain. This just after dawn.

The streets empty no sound just the patter of rain.

The world still slept.

The Sun came back in the afternoon. So bright so hot.
