"Addendum"

This from the comments. Some comrades misunderstood thinking I wanted to shoot up my dear Dino comrades,...far from it.

"I've always felt when world peace or our enslavement by ironically humored space aliens...which is pretty much the same thing. Anyway I always thought when organized murder is gone. We should keep some of the hardware to play with."

"I'd love to fly a vintage F-102 Cold War fighter straight up at Mach 2."

"Yeah now ya talking!"

Back in the olden days I used to make model air planes, and I painted the suckers - did all I could to make them look authentic.

I always did like all the delta winged cold war aircraft. Given that the shape of those aircraft made no concessions to radar cross-section or stealth characteristics, they have a purity of line that is pleasing to the eye. It undoubtedly speaks to the perversity of our race that some of the most beautiful things we have ever made are for killing each other.

Playing Advocatus Diaboli for a moment, the fact that the Concord aircraft shares the same sort of beauty as the B-58 is some evidence that what is pleasing is not the warlike uses that military aircraft are put to, but rather the fact that they are a kind of technological tour de force.

My vote for coolest looking aircraft ever would go to the SAAB Draken. Not withstanding that if I took a ride in the back seat I would undoubtedly spend most of the time nauseous, I would say yes to a ride.

When I was a boy my father took me to an airshow which was loaded with amazing aircraft including the F-106. The unique design of the canopy on those machines was unforgettable.

Years latter one of my colleagues was a former U.S. Air Force mechanic. He worked on the F-106, amongst many other aircraft. When I mentioned to him that I preferred the looks of the two seat model, he said that he liked the looks of the single seat version better, but with the 'b' model the pilot could and would take you up for a ride once in a while.
