"Ice Nine"

It's getting too cold even for me.
The sun is going down, and the temps
are dropping like a rock.
It should settle at 18f this evening, and night.
More than enough ice for even me.
I will not be taking a constitutional tonight.

Though perhaps I will be burning my furniture to keep warm.
That, and enjoying the internet while I still can. This since the FCC chair a Libertarian fanatic has overthrown Net Neutrality.

It will soon be too expensive for any, but the well off to use. If there's ever going to be a revolution this will cause it.
Revolt over Black 12 year olds being shot dead by cops,
"...no".
Revolt because of the poor are in the gutter going hungry,
"...no way".
Revolt because we're causing our own extinction,
"...ZZZZZZ".

They going to take your free porn away.
"WHAT???!!!!"
"To the Barricades!!!!"

"Fucking Venceremos Comrades!"

My house is uninsulated. Winter would be bearable otherwise, but this way it bites.

Killing net neutrality is the beginning of the end of the internet. As real economies continue to contract and the circle of privilege therefore continues to shrink, the number of those who can afford web access likewise will diminish. The web is immensely expensive to maintain, and above all extraordinarily energy intensive to operate. It requires giant participation to sustain it. At some point the paying audience will be too small to pay for all that energy or support the maintenance of that vast infrastructure. Eventually, even the wealthy will lose access, and the web will die. This is why I’ve often said that print media will be back.

Libertarianism is a silly belief system. You can’t have private property without a state to defend it. Randroids are silly people.

My first political activity was with the New York Libertarian party. That had a civilized position of race relations sexuality, and the military. These were progressive Libs. Far right Libertarians slowly took the national movement over.
Some went so far as to say individuals could sell themselves into slavery via a specified contract. I've since heard that S&M culture has exactly this for some.

So I left as fast as I could, and became an Independent Anarcho-Commie-Pervert-Artist-Shaman. I used to have the idea to run for City Council under that banner. I know I would have got media play at least, and perhaps a few hundred to maybe a thousand or two votes.

What I would have done if elected I haven't a clue which was the whole point.

Oh if I haven't said it yet,...Fuck Libertarians, and their Slaver Capitalism can Kill as many as it wants party line.

A thought.

What will two billion people do with their computers once there's no "Net to connect to. These things are actually rather powerful machines. I like to think that eventually folks will figure a way of independently connecting to each other outside of the 'net. this, and make some sort of A.I.-esque Brainiac thing.

Two billion weirdo's using powerful digital gaming info crunching machines.

The clear making of a 1950's pulp novel. Like the unexpected women's revolt this could jell with other unexpected outcomes of our collapse to make another kind of world. The hyper rich will continue on with all the toys they only they can now afford. While the rest of us build a cultural paradise based on humanity. As opposed to money cruelty greed, and a profound lack of imagination.

This might be that positive science fiction story we're looking for only it's real.

Nah, every computer is destined to crash. They’re junk - too dependent on long & fragile supply chains. You can’t make your own silicon chips.

The future of long distance electronic communication is short wave radio. It’s low-end, much simpler and therefore a sustainable technology. You *can* make your own vacuum tubes, given the tools that would have been available to a medieval alchemist. If you wanna be wired, be a radio ham.
