"Arm the Homeless"

A Michigan candidate for US Senate has proposed arming homeless people with pump-action shotguns in an effort to reduce crime.
Brian Ellison, who is running against Democratic incumbent Debbie Stabenow, says homeless people are “constantly victims of violent crime” and providing them with firearms would provide a deterrent.

Ellison, a Libertarian who is expected to be the party’s candidate in the November midterm election, said he had settled on pump-action shotguns for practicality purposes.

“Frankly I think the ideal weapon would be a pistol,” he told the Guardian, “but due to the licensing requirements in the state we’re going to have a hard enough time getting homeless people shotguns as it is.
“So we thought that pump-action shotguns were a suitable alternative to a pistol.”

I can see it now.

Convoys of National Guard trucks roaming the forsaken ghettos trailer parks Iraq-war homeless vet encampments. The hoards of homeless old retired folks. These living in their cars parked in the lots of shuttered Walmart's.
They'd be handing out double barreled or pump action hardware to the battered masses to use on any, and all that fucked with them.

Eh...this could a tad of a problem on reflection. I mean as they might well use this shit on each other. The cops or just anyone that happened by. Um,...perhaps this hasn't been thought all the way through.

Of course these army trucks would not be handing out food water meds coats or blankets as that would clearly in a liberal communist way be fostering dependency.

I think we should arm everybody in the country. If every day care and preschool issued fully loaded automatic weapons to toddlers, they would never want for the necessities of life. A heavily stocked armory in every school should be our foremost educational goal. It’s the American way!

Sounds more than reasonable.

However I'd draw the line at any flame-throwers for middle schools.

Yes I know this sounds like snow flake liberalism. However I'm thinking the cost of maintenance. This since 11, and 12 year olds play havoc with machinery.

No better to leave these for colleges, and mechanical trade schools. That of course along with the 105mm artillery pieces.
We want school safety. However it must be cost effective.
