Before I forget, happy Straight "gay" Fag Queer Trans, and Boy Lover Month. This when by the light of a full moon, and chanting the hymns of da G-ddess, and the Holy Boy. All good perverts get together, and burn the religious books instruments, and assorted totems of their choice. Then piss, and or jerk off over the ashes to make the point.
Some gleeful young Queers above at Coney Island during the "Mermaid's Parade". A sacred procession to the sea where annually the opening of the Season of the Sun is celebrated.
And an un-straight 'Gay!' old time is had by all!
When I was a lad about 348 years ago such as this would have been unimaginable. Literally I never imagined this. A boy in his room with a Queer flag, and his folks knowing, and maybe taking him to a Queer parade. Those in my time lived in quiet hell. This with everyone around me saying how much they wanted to find beat up, and or kill some "Fruits".
My cousins among these monsters.
So yes despite everything small tentative cultural changes were made in my lifetime. I can ride at the front of the bus, and Queer kids though still being killed. Yes this, and assorted horrors still true. Now they can ride at the front of the bus with me, and all the other usual suspects.
'Only took about 2000, and some odd years.

History is weird. In some ways it gets better, in other ways it gets worse. Gay kids now are less likely to suffer torture ("therapy") by electrocution, but more likely to get shot in school. It's OK to be gay, but more than ever not okay to be - I can't even mention it, such a thought crime is it to contemplate what I was about to discuss.
The evil really got rolling during the reigns of the Byzantine emperors who ruled what had once been the eastern half of the Roman Empire: Theodosius I, Theodosius II, and the especially vicious theocrat Justinian. As they progressively criminalized the practice of the old Greco-Roman polytheistic pagan religions, so also did they criminalize homosexuality, punishing both with ever-intensifying cruelty. It was really one process, that of the Christianization of the western world.
History is also complicated. Not all Christians are cruel persecutors. André Gide was Christian (you know about his... proclivities?). Devout Quakers were the first white people to decide that black slavery was not OK. But without the advent the Abrahamic religions, we would not have the awful world we have today.

I just wrote a post/story based on your comment. "Uncle Syd speaks to Abraham,...yeah that one."
