"...states of mind"

Ya know we're due for some new states. Blue ones of course. Been near 60 years since we added anything on. Mind you I know no one sane would want to join us as we are now. That, and whole regions want to leave, but still.
We could start with some of them neat islands we got laying around. Guam Puerto Rico the Mariana's, and such. Then maybe Iceland for the heck of it.

We don't even have to tell them we should just do it.
Just my opinion here. Maybe would could just declare certain 'hoods, and blocks around the world States. I'm thinking of a few neat places in Paris London or Montreal.
Also  I always thought Baja California should have been a state...what are they asking?

Pretty much.

As I say can't imagine anyone now "wanting' to come here.

With he exceptions of assorted overseas crime mafias who see opportunity taking slices of our rotting carcass.

If some Russian Chinese or Latin crime Corporations could come up with a 21st century sort of Crack. They'd have a vast willing market in the betrayed downsized American underclass.

Our own pharma mobsters have beat them to it. I gather fentanyl is more deadly than morphine by orders of magnitude. What with the way the American Dream is working out, the market for it should be booming for quite some time. It’s a salient example of American capitalism at its finest.

The Chinese are already doing nicely out of us, for instance by buying up our scrap metal (which is actually quite valuable) at fire sale prices and selling it back to us in the form of shoddy manufactured goods, that often break upon the very first use so you have to buy another bloody can opener.

BTW, did you know that Iceland is the only country in the world that not only didn’t cave in to bankers’ criminal demands pursuant to the crisis of ‘08-‘09, but actually put some of the crookeder ones in jail where they belong? Clearly Icelanders don’t have rocks in their heads, which is why they won’t be voluntarily joining us.

Actually I can't think of 'anybody' that would willingly join this failed state of ours. It was different by vast truly vast orders of magnitude in say 1960.

If we offered statehood then to any that wanted it we would have had the United States of the World!

Only Russia, and China saying no.

At least their murderous commie bosses would say no. The people might have overthrown them to get into the then drive-in movie rock, and roll '57 Chevy tail finned good jobs big buxs color TV wonderland that was the U S of A back then.

Yeah, 1960 was a different world for sure. I won’t pretend I don’t miss it. There *are* some factors I don’t miss, but on the whole I’m pretty sure I’d take it back in a flash.

The thing is, then there were wide open possibilities, even that of making a better world. But now we’ve taken too many wrong turns, and those bad choices are irrevocable. Now all the desirable options are foreclosed. That wasn’t the case 50 or 60 years ago.
